Background

The labor-intensive garment industry is the primary driving force of Bangladesh's economy. This promising sector not only keeps the wheels of the economy turning but also provides employment opportunities to millions of people. From the production of raw materials like yarn to exports, textile engineers are in high demand at every stage. Transforming yarn into fabric and then into garments is essentially the work of textile engineers. The ingenuity and mindset of textile engineers have created a unique brand called 'Made in Bangladesh' in the international market. This industry is built upon a team of talented textile engineers. To meet the growing demand in the international market, the garment industries of the country are creating employment opportunities for skilled textile engineers.

Located just 2 kilometers from Gournadi Upazila, the gateway to Barisal, and spread over 5 acres, Shahid Abdur Rab Serniabat Textile Institute, Gournadi, Barisal, is a modern architectural marvel.

The academic activities of the institute began on August 1, 2018. Here, SSC passed students can enroll in a 4-year Diploma in Textile Engineering course for girls. This institute is controlled by the Textile Directorate under the Ministry of Textiles and Jute and the curriculum is managed by the Bangladesh Technical Education Board.

In the 2018-19 session, the journey began with 107 students in the Diploma in Textile Engineering course. Currently, 525 students are studying in four batches.

There are currently four specialized departments:

  1. Wet Processing
  2. Fashion Design
  3. Apparel Manufacturing
  4. Merchandising & Marketing

To survive in a competitive world, there is no alternative to improving the quality, introducing diversity, and above all, research in the textile industry. In this regard, the Diploma in Textile Engineering graduates of Shahid Abdur Rab Serniabat Textile Institute, Gournadi, Barisal, are working towards establishing a strong foundation for the country's textile industry by practically applying their scientific knowledge and experience to innovate and develop up-to-date technologies.
